Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Trailer and Details Revealed

Following the stream revealing the title for the newest addition to one of their most popular franchises, Ubisoft has finally released a cinematic trailer along with key details about Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Set during the dark ages, the reveal confirms that the story will focus on Norse mythology. Players take control of Eivor, a Viking raider who leads their clan from the shores of Norway to the ‘lush farmlands’ of England. According to the trailer, the story will show various aspects of their culture and history. Often portrayed in media as bloodthirsty savages, Vikings will seemingly be depicted in a more sympathetic and heroic light. This can be seen with how their actions in the trailer contradict the narrator’s perception of them being ‘godless barbarians’.

Despite showing no gameplay, the developers have revealed details about how the era will introduce new elements to the franchise. While England was a divided nation at this time, the Vikings managed to expand their territory within the country. Building a settlement will be a major factor in how players shape the open world. Here, you will be able to build an army, improve weapons and customise your character in different ways. You can then increase your influence by leading your warriors on massive battles against Saxon armies and fortresses.

As a Viking, you are equipped with a unique combat style that’s both fierce and ruthless. Armed with swords, shields, and dual-wielded axes, you will fight against brutal and ruthless enemies. Strategy is the key, as you can choose to face your foe or assassinate them with your hidden blade. Dialogue and choices make a return to the franchise and will play a major role in how the story develops. This will shape your identity as a warrior and leader, as you march through savage battles or forge alliances and ‘triumph by your wits’.

Much like many other titles in the franchise, the quality of the cinematic trailer stands out yet again. It scratches the surface of the story, while also teasing elements of what the game is about. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is planned for release this holiday season on current-gen systems.  It will also be the debut title for the franchise on the Playstation 5 and Xbox series X.
