They say to keep your expectations low when being set up on a blind date, but how low does it have to be when your date is actually from another world and wants to take over yours?
Well, that’s the predicament our MC faces in Love Limit, a free-to-play romance visual novel. Eiren, a normal girl, agrees to support her sister’s matchmaking business, only to find herself matched with an alien set on taking over Earth. That is, until his heart ends up being taken over by Nerie herself.

The opening wastes no time drawing you in with her sister’s quirky antics as you wait for your date to arrive, and every choice matters, with an ending easily reachable within the first five minutes. There are 12 endings altogether, and while they can be completed fairly easily, they’re all entertaining enough that you don’t feel like your time was wasted. Well, almost all of them—one requires a few additional steps unless you happen to stumble into it naturally.
The art is very simple, but the beauty lies in the game’s interface, which gives off a spaceship telecommunications vibe. Although highly stylistic, I did find the font a little difficult to read at times.

The characters, although few, are all full of personality. The standouts are your sister, Lynne, the misfit who caused this whole mess, and, of course, your alien love interest, Egen, the Prince of Ornthorn. That personality extends to Eiren as well, whose quick wit makes it easy to understand why the prince falls for her.
Egen himself is a very endearing character who is easy to fall in love with. Earnest, hardworking and loyal, there are few better qualities you could ask for in your leading man.

The writing is easily just as charming, with many moments that genuinely made me laugh out loud. These moments are often accompanied by music, and although there are only a handful of tracks that repeat throughout the game, I didn’t find myself getting bored of them. If anything, there was one 8-bit-esque track played during intense moments that repeated so often it eventually turned the scenes slapstick. That said, it was very fitting and, overall, a good choice.
However, there were some moments where the scene would consist of nothing but long-form text that went on for extended periods, accompanied only by occasional sound effects and no additional graphics. It was a shame, as some extra visual elements could have elevated those moments.

The same could be said about the romantic scenes as Nerie finds herself becoming closer to Egen. There are some sweet moments, but unfortunately, the game only has around four of them, sprinkled throughout rather than tied to specific endings. It would have been nice to have one dedicated to the “main” romance ending.
That said, this isn’t a criticism of the writing itself, as I genuinely enjoyed reading it, particularly the interactions between the characters.
8/10
